choices: broken or crushed

Jesus looked directly at them and asked, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written:
” ‘The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone’?

Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”

Here’s a thought.  Jesus is the Cornerstone upon which the Kingdom is built.  He is the cornerstone upon whom our lives are built, if we let him.  We can choose to fall on Him.  If we throw ourselves upon Jesus and his mercy, we will be broken.  Deconstructed.  Taken apart so that we can be rebuilt, and rebuilt stronger.  For the believer there is no avoiding this reality of the Christian life.  It cannot be side-stepped.  The truth is we will fall on Jesus, be shattered, and be lovingly reconstructed again, and again.

We are given a choice.  We can choose not to fall on Jesus and His everlasting mercies.  Or we can wait until He falls on us.  Its a picture of the Judgment.  Anyone on whom the Cornerstone falls will be crushed.  The choice is ours.  Its seems like a no-brainer to me.

hitchmo on ‘the john’

Gay priest Dr Jeffrey John could become a bishop in Wales reports The Times today.  Happily ‘married’ Dr John, currently the Dean of St Albans, had previously been appointed to the post of Bishop of Reading back in 2003, only to be deselected again due to the pressure put on the Archbishop of Canterbury by opposition from the Evangelical and traditional wings of the Church of England.

Has anyone ever noticed the more than passing resemblance of Jeffrey John to Elton John? Maybe they are related, who knows?  Could they even be the same person in a different guise?  The similarities between them are remarkable. Is this some kind of ploy to get the Rocket Man into the House of Bishops, I can’t help but wonder?

Any thoughts on a post to this blog.

Jeffrey John, not the only gay in the village…?

some men

Some men aren’t looking for anything logical. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn…

pier of the realm

Today I found myself in Westen-Super-Mare, it being an August Bank Holiday Monday.  Originally we (the Hitchmo’s) had intended to go to the quieter and marginally more picturesque Sand Bay just along the coast.  The problem with Sand Bay is that there is nothing there.  And I mean nothing.  Apart from ’sand’ that is.  Sand on its own is not enough to entertain two little Hitchmo’s for very long, so we packed up our buckets and headed for Westarrrn, as it is known in this part of the country.

Actually I surprised myself - and my family - by enjoying the whole experience.  There was a really happy family atmosphere, and hardly a hooligan in sight.  Westen felt like it was just the kind of place an Englishman like me was supposed to be on an overcast August Bank Holiday Monday, replete with ice cream, candy floss, and a ride on a donkey…

You can’t go to Westen without a walk on the Grand Pier, a section of which was burnt to the ground (or to the water to be more accurate) a year or so back.  There is a visitors book on the Pier, which contains the inscription ‘Jeffrey Archer did it…’.  I do hope this contribution wasn’t suggesting that the Right Honorable Lord Archer of Westen-Super-Mare was in any way responsible for the fire on the Pier.  How could such a man as Lord Archer - a truer man of fiction it would be hard to find  - be responsible for such a callous and disgraceful act?

the beijing olympics - before & after

These were the statements that opened and closed the final bulletin on the 2008 Beijing Olympics as broadcast on News at Ten yesterday evening…

Before

In a nation without a god, the Olympics has been a religion.

After

Now these Olympics are over, the Chinese people will have to find something else to believe in.

john crowder - postmodern prophet

Sons of Thunder (John Crowder). A postmodern prophetic ministry

I am currently fascinated by this guy, and I can’t believe this stuff is happening in church…

You have heard of ‘Extreme Sports’, well this is ‘Extreme Christianity’, or to borrow a term from theologian Dave Andrews, ‘Christianarchy’.

It is extreme, wacky, and irreverant, but like Naomi H-B I figure that God is in it somehow…

On a serious note, there is a pandemic sweeping the world.  The Devil loves to keep it just below the radar,  yet this pandemic is killing more people than AIDS, and keeping millions more in conditions of psychic torment and spiritual capitivity.  It is the pandemic of ’substance abuse’.  I can’t help thinking that Crowder’s approach to Christian spirituality and spiritual expression might be just what we need to reconnect the drug subcultures with Jesus…

Stay high on the Most High…
